About Fledgemade

We build birdhouses
the way the birds need them.

Fledgemade is a small American conservation-engineering company making the most thoughtful nest boxes on the market: a modular platform where one body covers dozens of species through interchangeable, species-precise entrances. Every house is safety-engineered, passive ventilation, drainage, predator-aware geometry, and printed in weather-resistant materials.

Origin

The Story

Most birdhouses are still built the same way they were generations ago, designed around standard lumber dimensions, not around the birds meant to live inside them.

But birds are precise.

A Carolina Chickadee prefers a 1⅛" entrance. Bluebirds need more space. Northern Flickers require entirely different dimensions altogether. Entrance size, cavity depth, floor footprint, ventilation, drainage, every detail influences whether a bird accepts a nest site or passes it by.

So I started asking a simple question:

Why aren't birdhouses designed around the species first?

As an engineer, I approached the problem differently. Instead of designing from the lumber inward, I designed from the bird outward.

That led to the foundation of Fledgemade: modular, species-focused nesting habitats built with modern manufacturing and real biological considerations in mind.

Each house is designed around a universal structure with interchangeable entrance systems and species-specific front plates. A single component can transform the same habitat from a chickadee house to a bluebird box to a swallow nest, making specialized nesting habitats more accessible without the waste and limitations of traditional manufacturing.

3D printing made that possible.

Without molds or tooling constraints, designs can continuously evolve and improve over time. Every nesting season teaches us something new. Every iteration gets smarter. Every detail can be refined with purpose.

The result is a modern approach to backyard habitat: durable outdoor-ready materials, thoughtful ventilation and drainage, modular adaptability, and designs inspired by how birds actually nest in the wild.

But this was never meant to be just decoration for a fence post.

Fledgemade exists to help turn ordinary backyards into real nesting habitat that support native birds in a meaningful way.

Designed & manufactured in the USA.

Every part of a Fledgemade kit is engineered, printed, packaged, and shipped from the United States. The filament we use is sourced from American recyclers when available. Supporting domestic manufacturing means a shorter supply chain, less shipping carbon, and dollars that stay in the communities that grow the movement.
